Our new single is called "Chopped Heart" and it will be here for you to listen to very soon. We'll be launching it this Friday in The Grand Social (formerly Pravda) - it'll be our last Dublin show of the year.

"This Friday?" we hear the football fans amongst you scream in anguish. "Why, that's very same night as the first leg of Ireland's crunch Euro 2012 qualifier against Estonia! You crazy, TGC!".

Not so, friends. We have meticulously planned the evening to cater for all of your needs - the match will be screened in The Grand Social (kick-off 7.45), and our gig will commence immediately after its (hopefully glorious) conclusion. We will take the stage at 10pm. Hooray!

Academy gig

Tonight in The Academy, Dublin we play a very special gig along with Sacred Animals supporting O Emperor on their Sedalia tour. To sweeten the deal O Emperor will be playing with a brass and string section on this date. Check out the video for their epic version of Sedalia with the RTE Concert Orchestra.

Also on the bill are the excellent Sacred Animals who released their Welcome Home EP last year to much approval and clapping of hands. Here's a lovely clip of main man Darragh Nolan performing on Other Voices.

We are delighted to announce our first headline gig of what we hope will be a very good year. It's in Crawdaddy next Friday 18th February and you can RSVP it on our Facebook page.

We're really looking forward to our first headline show since The Creatures Down Below EP launch and quite excited at the prospect of previewing some new songs that we're in the middle of writing and recording at the moment.

Tunebreaker

Howdy folks!

We'd like to bring to your attention a little competition we're taking part in called Tunebreaker. You can read all about it here but the upshot of it all is if we come first we stand to win a whopping €10,000. Even if we don't win we stand to gain lots of valuable coverage through this award and we've already made the top 50 shortlist.

Now here's where you come in. To succeed in the competition we not only have to impress the judges but we need votes as well. This requires people to register with the Tunebreaker site and download the songs from our profile at 60p per song. Hello friends, and ho ho ho to you all. We've been helping ourselves to the Christmas spirits recently and are feeling the seasonal vibrations. We've even gone so far as to record our own Christmas song...

It's called "Hurry Up Children Santa's Coming" and we recorded it (mostly) live a few weeks ago. It is based on a real incident in Geoffrey's childhood when he heard Santa's footsteps on the roof. It features sleigh bells, Santa impersonations and a whole bagful of other Christmas cliches. It's only available online, as part of Indiecator Records' annual "An Indiecator Christmas" compilation. The Pledge

Hi folks,

We'd like to say a final thank you to everyone who took part in the EP pledge campaign. All in all it was a big success, and it helped us get the EP together much quicker (and to do a better job) than we otherwise could have. It was a new and fun experience for all of us, and we learned a fair bit. A few observations:

Firstly, the facts and figures. We're not organised enough to have the exact amount to hand, but we can tell you that we got around 150 pledges and made well over 2 grand. This made a huge difference to us at the crucial recording/mixing stage and helped us get stuff finished without resorting to painful loans. It also helped us to finance a sweet video, which is now nominated for 2 IMTV awards! (you can vote for us in the Viewers Choice award here). Good work Stevie Russell, and good work you.

While we'd like to avoid corny phrases like "getting in touch with our fans" and so on, it was nice to actually correspond personally with you people and get your feedback on the process. It's great to know that our emails aren't completely disappearing into the digital wilderness and it was really encouraging to see that, after a couple of fairly quiet years, people were still interested in our band. People's enthusiasm also put us under a bit of pressure to work harder, and pushed us to do a decent job of getting nice CDs and t-shirts made.

It also made us a new friend! We were pretty uncertain about the "join us onstage at our launch gig" option, and we didn't know if anyone would be into it. In fact, it resulted in Sergio from Barcelona getting his name chanted at him by the whole of Whelans, and us being very glad we included it.

The t-shirts were one of the most popular options - we sold around 35 - and we were very pleased with the way they turned out. We have a small amount left in our online shop (click on the "shop now" tab here if you'd like one).

The intimate gig option had less success. The chance to get up close and personal with TGC was apparently of limited appeal...perhaps people felt it would be a little creepy.

Demand for the 5-a-side football option was precisely zero. We thought this was a great idea, but it just didn't happen for us. Perhaps we priced it a little too highly. Perhaps our market research was flawed and our fans tend to play other sports? Look out for the TGC Beach Volleyball Challenge Campaign in 2011, and the TGC Chess Showdown. We like to think people were simply intimidated by our legendary soccer skills.

Musicians do not naturally make good administrators. However, they can, eventually and with great mental strain, sort of learn how to use a spreadsheet.

So there it is. If you pledged, thank you many times over. If your CD or t-shirt was a month late, we're truly sorry. We worked hard at it and tried our best to get everything done on time. The Creatures Down Below

Hi Folks,

This is a truly exciting time for The Gorgeous Colours. We have just finished mastering our new EP and we are having the CD's pressed really soon. We're very proud of it and you should feel quite proud too as it would not have been possible without your help. The reaction to our EP funding idea has been fantastic with almost 100 pledges made so far and we've just hit the €2000 mark. To truly break even though we would ideally like to push it towards the €3000 mark so if you haven't pledged yet or you know someone who would be interested in our music then please spread the word.

As of today the chance to get your name on the thank you credits is gone as we have to send the instructions off to the printers. However there are still plenty of incentives to buy and some of our options proved quite popular. The EP/Album combo and T-shirt options were especially popular and six people have ordered the artwork. Most incredible of all though is the one pledge we got for Option 5. Huge TGC love for Sergio Sanchez Gomez who is flying in all the way from Barcelona to appear onstage with us in Whelans for our EP launch on the 14th October.

As of today, you can pre-order a copy of the EP here! In case of any confusion, here's a little more information on each option.

Option 1 (€10) - A signed copy of the EP sent out to you when it's ready (within a month, hopefully) + bonus stuff (unreleased demos, extra mp3s) + poster. Also, anyone who pre-orders will get their name in the credits of the EP (there is a time limit on this though as we'll need to press the cds very soon, so we can only guarantee this if you pledge before September 14th). N.B. If you choose any of the other options, you get this too!
Option 2 (€15) - Same as option 1, but with a copy of our debut album thrown in.

Option 3 (€25) - T-shirt featuring new EP artwork. Rough design below - finished design to follow soon.

Option 4 (€30) - Ticket to a secret show. This is limited to 20 people.

Option 5 (€40) - Join us for a song onstage at our EP launch in October! No musical experience necessary. Limited to 3 people for reasons of space...

Option 6 (€60) - High quality limited edition A2 print of TGC artwork. Rough design below - finished design to follow soon.

Option 7 (€150) - You and your friends challenge TGC to a 5-a-side football match! The number of friends is up to you really. If you want to have 6 or 7 (or more!) people playing that's fine, but obviously we'll need to call up a sub or two as well. Contact us to sort out details and we'll arrange something to suit.

EP Update

Howdy Folks!

It's been a few weeks now since we went public with our plan to finance our new EP with your help. We've got a great response so far particularly through Facebook and email and we also got a nice mention in the Ticket. Since then we've been deciding/arguing/coming to blows about how best to let you help us out. As a result we've decided to document this ongoing process to make it as transparent as possible and to keep everyone updated on how it's going.

The first decision we had to make was whether to go with an already established website or to simply create our own. There were pros and cons for both. Some of us argued that going with an existing site would make it more trustworthy for the fans and could possibly bring the project to a wider fanbase. However, with those sites were fees and hidden charges that we could ill afford and also the need to set a target which, if not met, would mean losing all pledges made. As a result we have decided to go with our own site using a secure Paypal account. This also means we don't have to set a specific target but we will be letting you know exactly how much has been pledged on our blog.

We then had to decide what was going to be in it for you. The bait on offer so far includes the usual incentives of a copy of the EP with your name in the credits, T-Shirts, artwork and bonus MP3's along with some fun incentives such as the chance to join us onstage for our EP launch in Crawdaddy, a special gig in a secret location and (my favourite) the chance to play us in a 5-a-side football match. We're also thinking it would be cool to record these events and put them on our website.

We've also been busy choosing the artwork and recording the songs for the new EP and rehearsing some new songs which should make their debut at the EP launch.

Hi Friends,

We'd like your advice, in return for the chance to win a free ticket to our EP launch!

We're in the process of finishing our new EP, and we're not far away. However, the cost of doing the final recording/mixing/production is going to be higher than the amount in our piggybank, and we'd like to avoid getting bank loans or resorting to crime if possible.

We're considering asking you, friends and fans, to buy your copy of our EP in advance. Not only will you receive the EP, but you'll have the option to pledge money for other stuff too, like your name in the credits, access to a special gig, and more...

What we want to know from you is:

What do you think? Would you be interested in doing this?
And if so, what extra stuff do you think we should offer: bonus material, artwork, unusual gigs? We're sure there are plenty of great ideas we haven't thought of and we'd love to hear them, the crazier the better - we want to make this fun for us and you. Been very quiet on the blog of late but we've been extremely busy rehearsing and gigging. Eventful weekend just gone by after supporting O Emperor in the Spirit Store, Dundalk and Ganglians upstairs in Whelans. Tremendous fun.
